    Information We Collect

We collect information automatically when you visit San Diego Coastal Guide, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring site, and time spent on each page. This data helps us understand how visitors use the site and improve the experience. We do not require account creation, and we do not collect personal information unless you voluntarily submit it via our contact form.

    Cookies

This site uses cookies — small text files stored on your device — for the following purposes:

    • Essential cookies: Required for basic site functionality and to remember your cookie consent choice.
    • Analytics cookies: Google Analytics tracks visitor behavior in aggregate to help us improve the site.
    • Advertising cookies: Google AdSense and its partners use cookies to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads where applicable.

    Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand site traffic. Google may set cookies and collect data — including anonymized IP addresses — about your use of the site. You can read Google's data practices at Google's Privacy & Terms. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

    Google AdSense & Advertising

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on this site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website and other websites on the Internet. Google and its third-party vendors use cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the Internet.

You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You may also opt out of third-party vendor use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info. For more information about how Google uses data when you use partner sites, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

    Third-Party Vendors

Third-party advertising vendors (including Google AdSense) may display ads on this site. These vendors may use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. We do not control these third-party cookies.

    Your Choices & Cookie Settings

You can manage your cookie preferences anytime via the link (also in the footer). You may adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies, opt out of personalized advertising via the links above, and use browser privacy modes (private/incognito) to limit tracking. We honor Google Consent Mode v2 — non-essential tags do not fire until you have made a choice in the EEA/UK.

    Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR (Article 6):

    • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — analytics cookies, advertising cookies, and ad personalization.
    • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — essential site security, fraud prevention, and aggregated traffic measurement.
    • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — retaining records as required by law.

Your GDPR Rights (EEA / UK / Switzerland)

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland you have the right to:

    • Access the personal data we hold about you.
    • Request correction of inaccurate data.
    • Request erasure ("right to be forgotten").
    • Restrict or object to processing.
    • Data portability — receive your data in a portable format.
    • Withdraw consent at any time (as easy as granting it — use the cookie settings link).
    • Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email sandiegocoastalguide@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Your CCPA / CPRA Rights (California)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you the right to:

    • Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, or "share."
    • Delete personal information we collected from you.
    • Correct inaccurate personal information.
    • Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
    • Limit use of sensitive personal information.
    • Non-discrimination — we will not deny service or charge different prices for exercising these rights.

To opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for advertising purposes, use the control. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where technically supported by our ad partners.

    Data Retention

    • Google Analytics user-level data: retained 14 months, then automatically deleted.
    • Google AdSense data: retained according to Google's policies (see Google's privacy documentation).
    • Contact form submissions: retained while needed to respond, then deleted within 24 months.
    • Cookie consent records: stored locally in your browser until you clear them.

    International Data Transfers

Our service providers (including Google) may process data in the United States and other countries. Where data is transferred out of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, these transfers are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, and where applicable the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

    Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Data collected via Google Analytics and Google AdSense is processed by Google in accordance with their privacy policies. We may share aggregated, non-identifying information with partners for analytics purposes.
